Spokesperson on Education and Science

Ruairi Quinn TD has stressed the importance of a Yes Vote to Lisbon on Friday as he canvassed with his fellow Dublin South East TDs in a joint canvass in Dublin today. The four deputies, Ruairi Quinn TD, Lucinda Creighton TD (FG), Minister John Gormley TD (Greens) and Chris Andrews TD (FF) came together to stress the importance of Lisbon to all sections of the community.

“It’s quite clear that support for the Lisbon Treaty comes from across the political spectrum. It’s not too often that TDs from Labour, Fine Gael, the Green Party and Fianna Fail can agree on something, but I know we all agree that Lisbon is vital to Ireland’s future.”

If we pass Lisbon, we will signal to the rest of Europe that we are engaged and committed members. If we vote No, we are likely to face even more economic turbulence and political uncertainty We really are the masters of our own destiny this Friday..

I support Lisbon because it will help restore international confidence in Ireland, will make the EU more accountable to its citizens and it will safeguard workers rights.

The Labour Party has worked tirelessly with a particular focus those areas that voted No to Lisbon in last year’s referendum. I would call on all citizens who want to safeguard the country’s future to vote Yes this Friday.”
