Labour Women launch their campaign in favour of the Lisbon Treaty in Dubllin's Mansion House.
"The impact of EU membership on Irish women, on the equality agenda and in terms of the broadening out of economic, social and cultural opportunities have been incalculable," Nessa Childers MEP for Ireland East said yesterday speaking at the Labour Womens' Yes to Lisbon campaign, which was launched in Dublin's Mansion House.
"Europe has had a positive influence on the lives of Irish women in two key ways. EU policies have transformed the landscape for Irish women in areas such as gender equality, equal pay and many other significant social policy areas...
"It is up to those of us who have benefited from the EU to get out there in the next 19 days and tell the story of Europe."
Labour Womens' International Officer, Mary Flynn, told the assembled group that the Lisbon Treaty makes the EU more open with greater Dáil participation in European decisions, public Council of Prime Ministers' meetings, and the greater consultation of NGO.
"Women are again in the position to make or break Europe. Labour Women is delighted that Nessa Childers MEP and Joe Costello TD launched our Lisbon campaign aimed at women."
As ever photographs from yesterday's launch are on Flickr.
